Bay Area Afghan American Community Reacts

One Bay Area community has been following the news of Bin Laden’s death with special concern. That’s Fremont’s Little Kabul, the cultural center for about 40,000 Bay Area Afghan Americans. KQED’s Shuka Kalantari has been talking to shoppers and storekeepers in this neighborhood, known for its bakeries, kabob shops and markets. Shes says many are relieved at Bin Laden’s death, but there’s also fear of a potential backlash from al-Qaida.

Janitors Rally for Safer Cleaning Supplies: KQED Radio looks at Work Place Safety

KQED Public Radio’s Health Dialogues looks at a not-so-obvious workplace hazard: industrial strength chemicals used by janitors to clean supermarkets. Janitors with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) rallied recently in front of Safeway and Lucky supermarkets throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area, demanding that their employers provide “green” cleaning products.
